I was brought on as DP for an episode of UNDISTRACTED, hosted by Brittany Packnett Cunningham, filmed on location at the Maryland Governor's residence in Annapolis, Maryland with Governor Wes Moore and First Lady Dawn Moore. The Brief: A Real Room, Not a Studio

A sit-down like this isn't shot the way a studio podcast production is. The location dictates the plan:

Pre-Production: Reading the Location First

Before setup, the priority was understanding the space — window direction, where light would fall through the day, and where cameras and switching gear could sit without becoming part of the conversation. On-location podcast production lives or dies in this stage. The crew's job is to disappear into the location, not dress it up as a set.

Production: Multicam, Live Switching, and Lighting Built for One Take

Unlike a scripted commercial shoot, this only happens once. There's no "let's get that again." The setup centered on:

• A multicam configuration covering hosts and guests from complementary angles, so no one repeats a thought for a camera reset
• Live switching on-site, cutting between camera feeds in real time for a fully assembled program, not raw footage to sort out later
• A full AV signal chain feeding camera and audio into a central switcher, so framing, exposure, and sound could be confirmed throughout
• Practical lighting built around the room's existing light rather than replacing it, holding skin tones without flattening the space's warmth
• Sound-first blocking — camera and mic positions planned around clean audio paths, since a podcast lives or dies on how it sounds
